Mauricio Israel Perez Lopez was born in Mexico City in 1971. Studying high school at the prestigious Centro Universitario México of the Marist Brothers, he discovered his passion for the apostolic work. During a year of vocational discernment with the congregation of the Marist Brothers of the Schools, Mauricio had his first contact with the apostolic work, teaching Dogmatic and Moral theology to adults. With the guidance of his vocational director, Mauricio discerned that his true vocation was not the consecrated life, but rather the life of the ordinary lay people, striving to live day by day the values of the Gospel in the secular world. Mauricio pursued then his second passion: computers, and became a B.S. in Electronic Systems Engineering, a profession he has been working on for more than 10 years now.
Mauricio participated at the Archdiocesan Synod of Bishops of Mexico in 1990, as a lay advisor. One year later, when he was 20, he became the youngest Visitor of the Institute for Lay Formation, being responsible of its education centers at five parishes, overseeing the quality and fidelity of their teachers, and reporting back to the coordinator of the Deanery. He authored later some continuous education
classes for catechists, such as: Later he enrolled in the Licentiate in Sacred Scripture program at the Institute of Sacred Scripture. He then got married and moved to the United States. On December 8, 2006, Mauricio made his consecration to the Immaculate Conception, becoming a member of the Militia of the Immaculata, a Marian movement founded by St. Maximilian Kolbe. Mauricio has written articles on biblical exegesis, listed on the BSW of the Pontifical Biblical Institute, and three books, which are used to complement his presentations. He has also recorded one CD of spirituality, and produces the daily podcast in Spanish "Semillas para la Vida", which has an audience of over 1,000 listeners every week. He currently lives in Redmond, WA, with his wife Lourdes and his sons Juan Pablo and Marcos Ivan, works at the largest software company, and continues his apostolic work mainly at Saint Monica's parish and Sacred Heart of Jesus' parish, in the Archdiocese of Seattle
